A running series of songs I may not have known had it not been for movies. Or in some cases, now come to associate a certain song with the scene in which it was included.
“Almost Famous” was released in 2000, though I must admit, it took me far too many years later to finally see what would become one of my favorite movies of all time.
It’s nearly impossible to pick just one beloved scene because the entire movie is so perfectly crafted, but for the sake of this post, I will go with the scene that features the first time I ever heard Led Zeppelin’s “Misty Mountain Hop.”
I was obviously familiar with Led Zeppelin prior to seeing the movie, but the inclusion of “Misty Mountain Hop” in such a memorable scene will always make it one of my favorites by the legendary band.
Plus, who doesn’t love a good bearded Jimmy Fallon cameo, and bonus points if you recognize the actor toward the end of the clip playing the enthusiastic Led Zeppelin groupie.
Extra Tune: Though it’s not a song I learned from the film, I would be remiss to write about songs in “Almost Famous” and not of course mention Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer.” Admit it, you now too feel compelled to sing along any time you hear it.
God bless Cameron Crowe for this masterpiece of a film.
